How I’m Paid

Clear compensation information before you compare health coverage. You should understand who I can represent, how I may be compensated, and what you still need to verify before making an enrollment decision.

What the initial consultation costs

I do not charge a separate consumer fee for the 15-minute health-insurance consultation described on this website. There is no obligation to enroll. The conversation is intended to organize your situation, identify relevant questions, and determine whether I am currently able to assist.

If a request falls outside my licensing, appointments, product access, or scope, I will not present myself as representing options that I cannot offer.

How broker compensation may work

If you enroll in certain insurance products through me, I may receive compensation from an insurer or distribution partner. The amount and structure can vary by insurer, product, state, enrollment, persistency, and other circumstances. Some available options may not compensate me, and compensation is not the same across every product.

Receiving compensation does not give me control over an insurer’s premium, eligibility rules, underwriting, benefits, provider network, formulary, claims decisions, or renewal terms. Those details come from the issuer and the policy.

Important: I do not represent every insurer or every health plan. I can discuss only products I am licensed, appointed, contracted, and currently able to assist with. You may have other options through HealthCare.gov, an employer, a spouse or parent, a government program, another broker, or directly from an issuer.

How I approach a comparison

A useful comparison starts with more than the monthly premium. I ask about timing, household, budget, expected use, doctors, facilities, prescriptions, travel, and the type of financial risk you are comfortable carrying. From there, I explain relevant options I am able to discuss and identify facts that require direct confirmation.

  • Premium: what you pay to keep coverage active.
  • Cost sharing: deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket limits.
  • Provider access: whether doctors and facilities participate in the specific network.
  • Prescription coverage: formulary status, tiers, restrictions, and pharmacy rules.
  • Eligibility and timing: whether you qualify and when coverage can become effective.
  • Limitations: exclusions, waiting periods, underwriting, or other policy-specific provisions.

Before enrolling, review the insurer’s current plan documents and verify important provider and prescription details directly with both the insurer and the provider or pharmacy. Do not rely solely on a directory, quote, summary, or website.

Questions people commonly ask

Does using a broker automatically increase the premium?

Do not assume that a quoted price is identical through every enrollment channel or that broker assistance automatically changes it. Confirm the official premium, fees, enrollment channel, and plan documents for the exact option you are considering.

Do you recommend the option that pays you the most?

My comparison process is based on the situation and the options I am currently able to offer. Compensation can vary, which is why this disclosure and the limits of my market access are stated openly. You should compare the recommendation against official documents and other options available to you.

Can you compare every Marketplace plan?

No. Marketplace registration, carrier appointments, and enrollment capabilities vary. I will not imply that I represent every Marketplace issuer or plan. You can always review Marketplace information directly at HealthCare.gov.

Can I ask about compensation before enrolling?

Yes. Ask how I may be compensated in connection with the specific product being discussed and what alternatives I do not represent.

Verify my identity and licensing

My licensed name is Joseph C. Douglas. My National Producer Number is 20888466, and my Florida license number is G056803. Review the current multi-state information in the public license directory. Licensing does not mean that every product is available in every licensed state.
